Interview - Interview with Anthony Law Wandsworth Borough News interviewed Closer star Antony Law in October 2004. Emotional and sexual intrigue, mixed with a dash of comedy, are the ingredients of Chelsea Players' latest production, Closer. Written by Patrick Marber, the play is a view of modern love - a falling-out-of-love story for our times. The story revolves around four strangers, Anna, Dan, Larry and Alice, how they meet, fall in love and become caught in a web of lies, love, sex, photographs, the internet, strip clubs and, as in all of the best love stories, betrayal. Closer probes deep into the ambiguousareas of emotional dependence, self-deceit and the fragility of everyone's expectations of love. Antony Law is journalist and writer Dan, the character being played by his namesake Jude in the soon-to-be-released film. "Dan is never really happy," says Antony. "He is oone of those people who believes the grass is always greener on the other side. "He goes from bad to worse during the play and is a very complex character. I don't think he understands himself. "From an acting perspective, this is a very challenging play. So much happens off-stage - you go off and come back on a year later, so in a few minutes you have to change your attitude towards the other characters. It is hard work." - Gareth Foreman, Wandsworth Borough News |
