PRODUCTION NOTES
The Weir, written by Conor McPherson and first performed in 1997 is set in a rural bar in remote Irish countryside. Three local men and the landlord swap spooky stories to impress Valerie, a young woman, recently arrived to live in the village from Dublin. The evening is both funny and poignant and the final tale, told by Valerie herself at the end of the evening, follows a strange and unexpected path which changes the group's mood.
Conor McPherson won the Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Playwright in 1997 for the play which is both funny and gripping, sweet and sad.
The Guardian wrote of the play, "A spellbinder that transfixes you ... No praise in fact is too high ... The Weir offers the most exciting evening in theatrical London".
